Shirley and the team get behind the scenes access to the Clipper Round the World Race. All you need is 50,000 €, be able to clear your diary for a year and a desire to sail around the world.
The Clipper Round the World Race was created by Sir Robin Knox-Johnson, inspired by the cost of climbing Everest and first raced in 1995. This adventure is both life changing and dangerous, most participants have little or no sailing experience and have never meet the crew they will sail with. Training is intense with safety being a priority, this challenge is no holiday and will push everyone to their limits.
The 2011-12 race showed exactly how hard this pay and play adventure is, as one crew member is rescued by the US Coastguard with life threatening injuries after their boat was hit by an enormous wave in a storm.
The next Clipper race starts in August 2013: www.clipperroundtheworld.com
